Blue Alchemy by Zima Anderson

20 - 28 June

Sat 20th June Opening Exhibition Night 7pm - 10:15pm | Fri 26 June Second Exhibition Night 7pm- 10:15pm | hosted by Zima Anderson

Zima Anderson presents, 'Blue Alchemy', an exhibition holding up a mirror to herself. This collection is diverse and expressive. She practices painting herself over and over again in different ways. Some are in the hands she loves, the lessons she has learnt, in a lot of portraits, in everything she is and knows. Scratching at the idea of creative perception and selfishly being whatever creative expression is true to her in that moment, free of conformity.

"This intention created the most interesting array of versions of myself.

I felt vulnerable. I felt like I had to really not lie to myself. I saw where I was lying.

Some paintings have hidden paintings underneath what you see now. It was such an interesting experience to try to see myself clearly, see myself in everything.

Trying to capture different moments of self-growth from a broken knee, falling 8 metres onto concrete, my identity, heartbreak, death in different forms and lots of God/Allah/Universe, whatever you want to call it.

All splashed into an attempt to continue to see myself in everything around me, to feel closer to God, to feel closer to the God in myself. I watched myself alchemise from red to blue. The gold of my mind on the canvas, all of me. But still, even in this attempt, no one will ever truly know me, for the mind of every one of us holds no end.

Can you see yourself too? Are you me? Am I you?"

Zeema pays respects to the Traditional owners of the land. Past, present and future emerging. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. The land the Exhibition is held on.

We acknowledge the Palawa/Pakana people as the Traditional Custodians of the unceded land of Lutruwita. As Zima is a descendant, she pays deepest respects to Ancestors and Elders past and present, whose strength continues to guide her expression.

A Space For What Cannot Be Said | Group Exhibition

4 - 10 July

Sat 4 July Exhibition Opening Night 6 - 9pm | Tickets $35

A Space for What Cannot Be Said warmly invites you to a group exhibition and fundraiser featuring works by Palestinian artists in Gaza who have continued to create under devastating conditions.

This contemporary art exhibition centres Palestinian artists from Gaza and their lived experiences of war, displacement, grief, survival, and endurance, while also including a small number of Jewish artists working in solidarity and refusing to remain silent in the face of violence carried out in their name.

Exploring themes of resistance, displacement, grief, memory, identity, and survival through visual art, film, and performance, the exhibition offers a space for witnessing, reflection and collective engagement.

The exhibition also asks how art can hold what exceeds ordinary language: how creative practice can become a form of testimony, remembrance, and resistance when experiences are too painful, complex, or overwhelming to be easily spoken.

Proceeds from the exhibition will be directed to the participating artists in Gaza.
